I once sat down to teach a local class, and one woman asked me how long I had been in business. She said she didn’t know I was around. I had already been in business at the same address for over ten years.
I have advertising in town, I’m online, I’ve done lots of work with plenty of clients, and yet there’s always going to be people that don’t know I’m here.
So what is the biggest mistake new businesses make when marketing on their own?
People assume that other people will find them.
“I have a storefront. People will see me.”

Marketing your business takes time. People may not hire you the very first time they hear of you, but if you are deliberate about repeatedly putting yourself out there, that person may hire you the next time around.
