You get home from a long day at work and you’re met by a loving wife who has supper ready at the table - wait - back up.
You walk in the the door and the first thing that reaches your ears is your wife is complaining that although you really wanted to get into business for yourself, you don’t spend nearly enough time with her or the kids. She says she appreciates the hard work that you put in, but what she really really wants is more time with you. The irregular paychecks don’t quite cover the bills on the slow months. The kids are a little whiney and really want your attention, but all you want is to get food in your belly and go to sleep.
Work is exhausting - tough physical work - and a sauna would really sweat the dirt out of your pores. But after supper, you need to send out invoices, scratch up a quote or two, and return phone calls to potential customers. Just before lights out, you scroll across some post on Facebook that mentions "your brand message" and how critical it is to building your business.
You’re really too busy to worry about rounding up more work, but at some point in time, your friends and family will run out of projects for you to do, and you’ll run out of word-of-mouth options. Maybe getting some advertising in would be the solution before your job list dries up, you're forced to sell some equipment, or you need to get a loan to keep the business afloat.
