You get home from a long day at work and you’re met by a loving wife who has supper ready at the table - wait - back up.
You walk in the the door and the first thing that reaches your ears is your wife is complaining that although you really wanted to get into business for yourself, you don’t spend nearly enough time with her or the kids. She says she appreciates the hard work that you put in, but what she really really wants is more time with you. The irregular paychecks don’t quite cover the bills on the slow months. The kids are a little whiney and really want your attention, but all you want is to get food in your belly and go to sleep.
Work is exhausting - tough physical work - and a sauna would really sweat the dirt out of your pores. But after supper, you need to send out invoices, scratch up a quote or two, and return phone calls to potential customers. Just before lights out, you scroll across some post on Facebook that mentions "your brand message" and how critical it is to building your business.
You’re really too busy to worry about rounding up more work, but at some point in time, your friends and family will run out of projects for you to do, and you’ll run out of word-of-mouth options. Maybe getting some advertising in would be the solution before your job list dries up, you're forced to sell some equipment, or you need to get a loan to keep the business afloat. When are you going to have time for all this stuff AND spend time with the wife and family?
I'll bet that when you were young, people always told you that working hard would bring success. I'll bet it came from your teachers, your parents, and even now you can hear it echo in your head.
Get good grades and you'll get into a decent school
A degree will get you a good stable job
Always give 110%
Did anyone ever ask you want YOU wanted to do? Frustration often sets in when you don't put your own values first.
I don't remember getting sick, not really. I only remember the feeling of utter devastation one Tuesday evening when EVERYTHING swam before my eyes. I couldn't remember how to add headlines in a program I'd used for 15 years. My body refused to comply with the urgency in my brain.
My husband said I was a inhuman - determined to keep going if it killed me. He was 'this close' to throwing out the computer because I wouldn't quit and rest up.
He turned off the computer and I slept for a week. And the world went on without me. I needed a new way to think of work - and making a living.

Imagine you could build a marketing plan that you could look to for answers on where to spend advertising dollars. When the basketball team comes looking for donations to go to state. When the Yellowpages calls and asks if you want to pay extra for printing your business listing in bold - or color.
Imagine you could put in your time doing the work our community needs, then put aside the shovels and the blueprints, and spend more evenings and weekends with your family.
How would that feel?
